Things to do on Mackinac Island

Founded as a Jesuit mission for the Native Americans in 1670, Mackinac Island has a rich history and beautiful natural landmarks. The island is home to Fort Mackinac, which stood guard over the fur trade during the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Visit the many natural wonders that are located in Mackinac Island State Park, such as Arch Rock and Robinson’s Folly. Take in the splendor of Lake Huron on a bike ride around the circumference of the island, the only state highway in the nation where motor vehicles are banned. Pay your respects at the Fort Mackinac Post Cemetery, the final resting place of the soldiers who served at Fort Mackinac and one of five cemeteries worldwide that is allowed to fly its flag at half-staff year round. Located downtown are a variety of restaurants, bars, and confectionaries just a short walk from the hotel.
