Marianne hails from Washington, NJ, and graduated from Duke University, where she met her husband, now Major General Brett T. Williams, USAF, Retired, in AFROTC.  She earned her commission at Detachment 585 and was also an “Arnie” in the Kevin J. McManus Squadron.

Marianne retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in June 2003 after a rewarding 20-year career, primarily in Personnel.  She commanded the 1st Mission Support Squadron, Langley AFB, VA, while her husband commanded the 94th Fighter Squadron, at Langley.  She served in a variety of Wing- and Staff/HQs-level assignments at Eglin AFB, FL; Keflavik NAS, Iceland; Langley AFB, VA; Maxwell AFB, AL; and MacDill AFB, FL.  Marianne served as the Chief, Senior Officer Management (Colonels and General Officers) in Air Combat Command and Chief, Air Force Personnel at US Central Command, and as an Executive Officer and Chief of Protocol.

Marianne remains passionate about giving back to the “Air Force family” who supported her active-duty career.  She shares her years of leadership and teambuilding experience by advocating for initiatives that empower our Air Force spouses and families.  She served as a senior mentor for the Air Force Key Spouse Program, Leadership Spouse Forums, and New Spouse Heart Link Seminars.  In 2012, with Mrs. Suzie Schwartz, former Chief of Staff spouse, Marianne authored Air Force 101: A “Back to Basics” Guide for Air Force Spouses, the first of its kind in standardizing key information for spouses Air Force-wide.  She also volunteered on the USAF Charity Ball Committee, to raise much-needed funds for Air Force Aid Society.

In 2009, the Air Force Chief of Staff presented “Team Williams” with the General and Mrs. O’Malley Award for their tenure at the 18th Wing, Kadena AB, Okinawa.  This award recognizes the Wing Commander and Spouse Team of the Year who “best exhibited their own courage, power, grace, and beauty in caring for Air Force families.” Upon her husband’s retirement in 2014, Marianne received the Air Force Scroll of Appreciation from the Secretary of the Air Force for 33 years of service to the Air Force, as an active-duty officer and military spouse.

Marianne serves as an active member of the Duke School of Nursing Alumni Council.  She and Brett currently reside in Durham NC – the Land of the Duke Blue Devils -- and they have two children, Mikaela and Sean Michael (2Lt in F-16 training at Holloman AFB NM).  Marianne’s interests include traveling, hiking, retail therapy, and of course, Duke Basketball!
